Mention KFC to anyone and immediately, they think of the chicken company. Never mind if it stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken, every one knows it simply as KFC, one of the world?s most popular chicken restaurant chains in the world. KFC boasts of 59 glorious years in the industry with over 15,000 outlets in over 100 countries and territories. You can?t beat that history and expansion and until now, no one can beat its Original Recipe and Extra Crispy Spicy chicken. It?s always a hit for family and friends? gatherings.

I?ve grown to love KFC in the Philippines and here in Saudi Arabia, it?s one of our go-to chains when hankering for chicken. The original recipe has a blend of spices that makes its taste unique. It gets to a point that the chicken meat sometimes proves to be irrelevant. Only the skin and its breading matter greatly. It separates from the chicken with a pull and the greasy feast begins. The crispy and spicy version makes a delicious mess of crumbs and oil; its chicken dotted with red flecks of chili and only a crunch escapes once consumed. I?m still a lover of the original recipe though. It?s unfortunate that the unlimited gravy that comes with every chicken order in the Philippines is nowhere to be found here in Saudi Arabia. It perfectly goes well with the chicken and the rice.

I?ve never been a fan of the sides of KFC. The fries are plenty but they?re textureless. They dry up fast and munching on them becomes taxing. While the mashed potato is creamy, it?s boring and bland. The coleslaw, a mix of shredded cabbage, carrots, and onions smothered with dressing, is inconsistent; most of the time watery and bland. Dessert time is salvaged by the chocolate chip cookie; its chewy, slightly crispy edges make it one of my inexpensive sweet pleasures in life. KFC is also one of our favorite places to call for delivery. They?re fast and efficient in our area. Our order comes right on the dot, sometimes earlier by a few minutes. From my experience dining in and taking out from their branches in Riyadh, the service is fast and the crew are attentive.

KFC is still one of the leading chicken chains in the world. Just the mere mention of it or a sight of its colonel logo in a mall?s food court sends my taste buds into overdrive. Eating KFC with the family and group of friends still brings a lot of laughter and smiles? and longer conversations regardless of the fact that fatty oil is dripping in our lips and grease is covering our bare hands.
