Kinds of Grand Canyon South Rim Helicopter ... - Travel - EzineMark

South Rim heli excursions are definitely the absolute best way to experience the National Park. These flights easily pack into 30 minutes what would take days on the ground. There are a restricted number of excursions to select from, but all of them will leave you with a memorable canyon experience.

Grand Canyon National Park is located in Northern Arizona near the Utah border. The Park is about 5.5 hours from Vegas and the Phoenix-Scottsdale metro area.

There are no direct helicopter aircraft to the South Rim from Vegas. You will have to bundle a chopper tour with either a plane flight or bus ride. Personally, I recommend the plane option.

From Phoenix, I suggest you self-drive. Flights to Flagstaff are excessively expensive. Besides, the drive up is very beautiful, particularly if you stopover in Sedona for lunch or as an overnight vacation spot.

This rim's excursions leave from Grand Canyon Airport, AZ, which is minutes from the Park's front gates in the town of Tusayan.

Three tour providers are based there: Papillon Helicopters, Maverick Helicopters and Grand Canyon Helicopters

I suggest Papillon based upon their commitment to quality, safety as well as price.

National Park air space is strictly controlled, so there's no below-the-rim or bottom-landing chopper rides at the South Rim. For that, you will need to depart from Sin City.

Here at South Rim, you have a basic flight as well as a deluxe one. Listed below are specifics:

Basic Helicopter Tour. Leaves daily. Flies over Kaibab National Forest and enters the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest section of the canyon, before going back at the North Rim.

Flight time is half an hour.

Deluxe Chopper Tour. Identical to above except you do it in a state-of-the-art EcoStar 130. This airplane comes with 25 percent more cabin space, theater-style seating, 180-degree windshield and a super-quiet ride.

I get a lot of questions regarding when you should fly. Morning is advisable. This is when the air is smoothest. In addition, you get great visibility. And do dress for weather. Yes you'll be in a helicopter the entire time. However, the canyon's climate is one of extremes. Finally, be sure to charge your smart phone or digital camera. Picture taking is inevitable and you want to make sure you have a full charge.

South Rim trips have become popular activities. So much in fact that I am now recommending that travelers purchase them at least 72 hours or even more ahead of time. I'm seeing a lot more sold-out trips nowadays, and, to be truthful, it is discouraging to appear at the airfield and watch as others get on their plane for the greatest show on the planet.

Planning is everything, and so is locating the best deal. I tell family and friends to go directly to the world wide web for the best rates. You could start at Expedia and Travelocity but you're wasting time. Find the sites of the businesses operating these tours. It's there where you will find specials that can help save up to 30 percent

I'm a big fan of these helicopter rides. Nothing touches them when it comes to delivering you the most canyon for the buck. Additionally they're great fun! So, when you plan your canyon getaway, surely include a helicopter trip to the mix. It'll definitely be the highlight of your trip.
